Sharòn Clark è una cantante Jazz Americana, di Washington.

Nel corso della sua carriera si è esibita nei teatri più importanti degli Stati Uniti e anche in altre parti del mondo, come la Turchia, Kirghizistan, Russia e Israele.

Ha ricevuto numerosi riconoscimenti tra i quali il Premio "Oxnard Gold Medal Award" e il “Billie Holiday Vocal Competition” a Baltimore , in Maryland.

La sua voce è stata paragonata a quella di Billie Holiday ma anche a quella di Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fizgerald e Shirley Horn.

Al fine di far emergere le sue caratteristiche vocali, è stato creato un progetto con l'obiettivo di riorganizzare ben noti brani musicali in termini jazz.

L'ambizione è quella di trasmettere nuove emozioni entusiasmanti, rendendo, in tal modo, il palcoscenico sonoro, piacevolmente variopinto.

Sharòn Clark ha iniziato a cantare all’età di sette anni e da allora non ha mai smesso.
Nei primi anni si è esibita con concerti in varie chiese ed a scuola e partecipato a concorsi ed eventi privati. Sin da giovane le sue doti vocali erano evidenti, infatti ha vinto molti premi e ricevuto diversi riconoscimenti per le sue esibizioni.

Negli anni successivi la Clark ha esplorato vari generi musicali ma è il Jazz, genere preferito da suo padre, che diviene la sua grande passione.

Si dice spesso che “la musica sia una lingua internazionale”, nel caso dell’interprete Sharòn Clark, questa frase potrebbe tramutarsi ne: “il Jazz è una lingua internazionale” e le sue recenti tournée internazionali testimoniano questo fatto.

La Clark ha ottenuto il Premio “Oxnard Gold Medal Award” al Tradizionale Concorso Americano per Cantanti , in occasione del Savannah Music Festival's, prima Jazz Vocalist di sempre a vincere la medaglia d'oro , nella storia di quattordici anni del Concorso.

Alla "Billie Holliday Vocal Competition” a Baltimore, nel Maryland ha potuto esibirsi con la Baltimore Symphony Orchestra nel 2007.

Elementi significativi della sua carriera: Sharòn Clark ha intepretato il brano “I Could Have Told You”, aprendo la serata dedicata a Quincy Jones,
Premio La Ludacris Foundation 6th Annual Chairman’s Award , Benefit Gala , Washington, DC (2009).

Si è esibita in tre concerti tributo a Ella Fitzgerald, alla “Jazz Appreciation Month”.

E' stata ospitata al "The Smithsonian Institution’s Jazz Café", concerto tributo per il compleanno della cantante leggendaria americana (2008).
Ha collaborato al concerto “Duke, Ella and Beyond”, al “Duke Ellington Jazz Festival” in omaggio a Duke Ellington and Ella Fitzgerald (2008).

Nel 2007 esce il suo secondo cd tanto atteso: Do It Again – My Tribute to Shirley Horn Feauturing per il concerto “Jazzical” con l’Orchestra Nazionale Sinfonica del Kyrgyztan , eseguendo brani originali del pianista e compositore Joel Martin (2007).

Feauturing ne la “Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra”, per l'omaggio a Quincy Jones, al Lincoln Theatre, Washington, DC (2001).

Si è esibita di fronte al Presidente William Jefferson Clinton ed ai suoi dignitari, at retreat sponsored by the “Democratic National Committee” (1998). I critici elogiano la Clark sin dall’uscita del suo primo album “Finally”, del 1997, della Union Records Label.

Il giornalista Mike Joyce, del The Washington Post , ha definito la Clark: “La Signora dotata di una voce vigorosa”; inoltre ha aggiunto: “È sempre una gioia ascoltare il ricco contralto della Clark, sia quando fa swing (e scat ) in “Lullaby of Birdland”, sia nelle nostalgiche "Bad Case of the Blues" e “Late at Night” consegnando la travolgente benedizione dell'album “What a Friend We Have in Jesus”.

Martin Shram del Washingtonian Magazine dice che: “Sharòn Clark può essere considerata la migliore cantante Jazz nella zona (di Washington)”. E' stata Vincitrice del “Bistrò Award Winner” di New York (2014).

L’ ultimo cd della Clark “Do It Again: My Tribute to Shirley Horn”, è stato commentato così da Mike Joyce del The Washington Post: “Sharon Clark spesso ci ricorda il gusto impeccabile della Horn, a cominciare da “The Great City”, la storiella ammonitrice di Curtis Lewis; è l' inizio straordinario di un album che onora il retaggio della Horn , senza sembrare un’ imitazione o qualcosa di forzato, innaturale.

Grazie al suo potente contralto e alla sua intonazione precisa”- aggiunge Joyce - “la Clark sembra completamente a suo agio nel brano “I remember you”.

During her career, she has performed in the most important Theaters in the U.S. and also in other parts of the world such as Turkey, Kyrgyztan, Russia and Israel.

She has received many Awards for instance “The Oxnard Gold Medal Award“ and “the Billie Holiday Vocal Competition“ in Baltimore, MD.

Her voice has been compared to Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fizgerald and Shirley Horn. In order to make emerge her vocal features, it has been created a project with the aim to rearrange well-known songs in jazz terms.

Ms. Clark started singing at the age of seven and has not stopped since.

Throughout her early years, Ms. Clark performed in numerous church and school concerts, talent shows and private events. Even at a young age, her talents as a singer were evident, with her capturing many first place awards and receiving accolades for her performances.

Over the ensuing years, Ms. Clark performed and explored many music forms, but found jazz- the music loved by her father – to be her true love as well . It's often been said that “music is the international language.”

In the case of jazz vocalist Sharón Clark, that statement could be modified to “JAZZ is the international language” and her recent international tours bear witness to that fact. Ms. Clark captured "Oxnard Gold Medal Award at the American Traditions Competition for vocalists at the "Savannah Music Festival", the first jazz vocalist ever to win the Gold Medal in the fourteen-year history of the competition, and the “Billie Holliday Vocal Competition" in Baltimore, MD, an opportunity to perform with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (2007).

Critics have been singing the praise of Ms. Clark since the release of her debut album, “Finally” on the Union Records Label in 1997.

Columnist Mike Joyce of The Washington Post labeled Ms. Clark as “the lady equipped with a lusty voice. ”He further added, “Clark’s sumptuous alto voice is always a joy to hear, whether she’s swinging (and scatting) through “Lullaby of Birdland,” yearning for companionship on “Bad Case of the Blues” and “Late at Night,” or delivering the album’s rousing benediction, “What a Friend We Have in Jesus.” Martin Shram of Washington Magazine says, Ms. Clark “may be the finest jazz singer in the [Washington] area.

The release of Ms. Clark’s latest CD, “Do It Again: My Tribute to Shirley Horn” led to the following review by Mike Joyce of The Washington Post: “Sharon Clark often reminds us of Horn's impeccable taste, beginning with "The Great City, "Curtis Lewis's cautionary tale. It is a delightful start to an album that honors Horn's legacy without sounding derivative or constrained.” Joyce adds, “With her rich contralto and spot-on intonation, Clark . . . sounds right at home on "I Remember You."
